Aerial photographs from @bioreconstruct reveal the initial concrete structures for the upcoming Piston Peak area in Magic Kingdom, part of a major expansion at Walt Disney World. The photos also showcase the progress on Villain Land and Big Thunder Mountain.
Piston Peak National Park
Frontierland in Magic Kingdom is undergoing a significant transformation with the introduction of Piston Peak National Park and Villain Land. The park's expansion includes the clearing of land and the construction of support areas, as visible in the aerial view. Notably, the first concrete forms for Piston Peak National Park are centered in the photograph.
Comparing the aerial photo to a 'fun map', the park's location is adjacent to Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Big Thunder Mountain. This area will feature a unique ride vehicle designed to mimic off-roading, inspired by a research trip to Arizona and a dirt track for racing.
Haunted Mansion and Mike Fink Keel Boats
Behind the Haunted Mansion, land is being cleared, and a second permit has been filed for the attraction's renovation. The contractor, MLC Theming, is responsible for installing set elements. Additionally, a permit for the former Mike Fink Keel Boats dock near The Haunted Mansion has been issued, with MLC Theming specializing in scenic painting, aging structures, facade fabrication, and rock carving.
Villains Land
Villains Land, a mysterious expansion, is taking shape with early preparation work. The dark, boomerang-shaped area marks the future location of the land, and a large construction staging area is nearby.
Disney has released limited information about Villain Land, but it will include two major attractions, shopping, and dining. Disney animator Andreas Deja is consulting on the project, and the concept art draws inspiration from Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent, featuring Yzma from The Emperor's New Groove.
Big Thunder Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain is undergoing a refurbishment with new ride vehicles and Audio-Animatronics figures. The mountain will also incorporate gold props and long-inoperable effects. The opening timeframe for this transformation was announced late last year, promising an enhanced experience.
Disney has also revealed an updated opening scene for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, transforming the Rainbow Caverns into a majestic and menacing setting. The final track piece was recently installed in a traditional golden spike ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the renovation process.
