Marcus Davis Expected to Become Florida WR Coach
Marcus Davis, who spent the last three seasons mentoring Auburn’s wide receivers, is anticipated to join Jon Sumrall’s staff with the Florida Gators. This move would place Davis in a key role on the Gators’ offense as they reshape their coaching lineup.
In 2025, Davis guided two of the SEC’s standout receivers. Cam Coleman posted 56 receptions for 708 yards, while Eric Singleton Jr. totaled 58 catches for 534 yards. Davis played a pivotal part in Coleman’s recruitment, helping secure a commitment from the five-star prospect who ranked as the No. 4 overall player in the 2024 class. Singleton joined the program as a transfer from Georgia Tech, where he previously worked under new Gators offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner.
Davis’ coaching journey before Auburn included stints at Georgia Southern for one season and Hawaii for one season. While at Georgia Southern, he coached Khaleb Hood, who earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors. Hood’s performance under Davis included school single-season records for receptions (87) and receiving yards (925), with an impressive 6.7 receptions per game, ranking 10th nationally.
Davis is a Boynton Beach, Florida native. He appeared in 50 games for Auburn, starting 15 of them from 2013 to 2016, and finished his college career with 83 receptions. His Auburn bio notes that he spent the 2020 season at Florida State as an offensive graduate assistant working with wide receivers and assisting with recruiting. Before Florida State, he spent two seasons at Auburn, contributing to a squad that at one point ranked as high as No. 7 nationally in player personnel and development (2019). In 2018, as an offensive analyst, he helped guide running backs and kick returners.
If this hire goes through, it would reinforce Florida’s emphasis on developing dynamic, playmaking receivers while leveraging Davis’ proven track record in recruiting and player development.
What do you think about Davis joining Florida’s staff? Do you see his experience shaping a new era for the Gators’ receiving corps, or would you prefer a different fit for the role?
