At the same time, he has come to the defense of Christina Hodson, the writer believed to be working on the upcoming film, The Brave and the Bold.
There’s no question that James Gunn is a gifted filmmaker. As the director behind Superman, he has taken significant steps to guide the DCU in a new direction. While it's still early in his tenure, he is busy crafting an intriguing lineup of projects, despite some previous misfires.

In response to fan inquiries on Threads, Gunn remarked, "The universe is full of inaccuracies regarding The Brave and the Bold at every level." He further defended Hodson by stating, "Anyone who is criticizing Christina Hodson's screenwriting abilities likely hasn’t read any of her actual scripts—she was among the writers involved during the early phases of our planning for the DCU." He added, "It’s crucial to remember that one cannot evaluate my writing based solely on the films directed by others, as directors often take considerable liberties with the material."
This raises an interesting question: is Gunn implying that the issues with The Flash and Batgirl stemmed from directors Andy Muschietti, Adil El Arbi, and Bilall Fallah? This seems peculiar, especially considering Gunn has praised The Flash as one of the best superhero films ever produced, and El Arbi and Fallah's work on Ms. Marvel received significant acclaim.
When a fan pressed Gunn about the possibility of Robert Pattinson portraying the DCU’s version of Batman—perhaps even a variant—Gunn simply replied with a firm, "No." Likewise, when discussing whether Grant Gustin from the Flash TV series could transition to the big screen as Barry Allen, Gunn bluntly stated, "That happened on TV for nine seasons." This does raise eyebrows since characters from the Peacemaker series have been welcomed back into the DCU fold.
