With the majesty of Terra shining through, it’s hard not to be impressed by these new miniatures. They present a fantastic opportunity for Legio Custodes enthusiasts who are eager to engage in battle against the Warmaster. The Emperor’s elite defenders have reached a new level of aesthetic excellence.
At the forefront of this upcoming release is the Legio Custodes Battle Group box set—a robust collection that essentially serves as a small army. It’s the perfect starting point for anyone looking to establish a new Custodes force. Let’s delve into what this set includes:
The fresh Custodian Guard models exemplify the iconic look we associate with the Custodians: towering figures wielding guardian spears, adorned with high plumed helmets, and clad in resplendent golden armor. This kit also features options for bare heads and command staff tools, including a vexilla. Fans of Warhammer 40,000 might recognize how ideal these would be for representing the Custodian Guard within an Adeptus Custodians army.
On the other hand, the Custodian Sentinels share a resemblance with the Guard but carry sentinel warblades alongside praesidium shields instead of guardian spears. They also come with similar customization options, and yes, you guessed it—they would seamlessly integrate as Custodian Guard within an Adeptus Custodes setup in Warhammer 40,000.
When it comes to weaponry and equipment, the Legio Custodes boasts the finest offerings in the Imperium. Their armored vehicles are no exception. The Caladius Annihilator Grav-tank stands out among its peers as one of the most formidable armored units of its class during the Age of Darkness.
With its adaptable Arachnus blaze carronade, it excels at demolishing tank armor or mowing down heavy infantry with ease. Additionally, the hull-mounted weapons include either a twin lastrum bolt cannon or a unique option we haven’t encountered before: the twin neutronium cascade projector. Imagine a main battle tank, but with enhanced capabilities!
To ensure that even the gravely injured warriors of the Custodes can continue the fight, they utilize Dreadnoughts. The new Custodes Battle Group will feature a stunning plastic Contemptor model packed into the set. This versatile figure can be assembled as either a Contemptor-Achillus, armed with the signature Achillus dreadspear, or as a Contemptor-Galatus, equipped with a Galatus warblade and praesidium shield. This duality offers two distinct types of Dreadnoughts, each serving unique roles on the battlefield: the Contemptor-Achillus inflicts a damaging 3 with its spear, making it a nightmare for enemy armor, while the Contemptor-Galatus excels in crowd control thanks to its flamer weapons, warblade, and additional durability from the shield. The best part? Its poseability allows for dynamic and impressive stances.
While every Custodian is a formidable combatant, the most exceptional among them ascend to the rank of Shield Captain. These warriors stand alongside the greatest champions of the Imperium, and the new Shield Captain miniature embodies such prestige—just take a look at the intricate details!
If you caught the earlier video, you’ve likely glimpsed some other exciting Legio Custodes kits slated for release:
With the striking silhouette of the Aquila emblazoned on their backs, the Venatari plunge into the fray, aiming to expose enemy vulnerabilities while striking with kinetic destroyers, bucklers, or Verutum lances. These swift and powerful warriors compensate for their lighter armor with the overwhelming force of their armaments.
Additionally, a second Caladius Grav-tank is being introduced, featuring the twin Iliastus accelerator cannon as its defining weapon. This cannon unleashes six Strength 8 shots per turn, which is more than sufficient to shred medium and light vehicles or decimate heavy infantry.
To transport your Custodians safely into the heart of battle, you’ll want to utilize the Legio Custodes Coronus Grav Carrier. Heavily armored and fast, it possesses the capability for Deepstrike, making it an ideal transport for the Emperor’s guardians. It can accommodate seven standard Custodians (or one squad and a character), and it provides vital fire support with its twin Arachnus blaze cannons or lastrum bolt cannons.
So, where can you find all the lore and rules for these new models and more? Enter Liber Custodes—your essential guide for utilizing the Legio Custodes in your games. It includes detailed information about the Custodians themselves, along with the Sisters of Silence, and an addendum covering the Agents of the Divisio Assassinorum. Notably, these two groups operate outside the formal structure of the Legio Custodes and can serve as allies or stand-alone forces, particularly the Sisters of Silence.
You will also discover the rules for two of the Emperor’s most renowned Talons: Captain-General Constantin Valdor and the Knight-Commander of the Silent Sisterhood, Jenetia Krole.
We’ve hinted that several of these models are well-suited for use in Warhammer 40,000, and that’s absolutely true. A rules update for the Adeptus Custodes is anticipated later this year. However, many of these new miniatures already fit perfectly as representations of existing units in Warhammer 40,000.
